General Assembly is teaming up with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to offer their free Work Smart salary negotiation training, and help empower you to advocate for yourself in your career.
At the current rate, the gender pay gap will not close until 2106. In their efforts to accelerate change, AAUW has boldly pledged to train 10 million women in salary negotiation across the U.S. by 2022 and close the pay gap by 2030
Why it Matters:
On average, women across the U.S. still only make about 80 cents on a man’s dollar. The pay gap increases even more when you break it down by race. Latinx women are disproportionately impacted the most, making only 53 cents on a white, non-hispanic male’s one dollar.
The gender pay gap exists across all demographics, in every part of the country, and in nearly every line of work. This is not only a woman’s issue, and it is not on women alone to close the pay gap. However, until policies change on the national and employer level, AAUW is empowering individuals to advocate for themselves in the workplace.
