    About the Instructor

    Jonathan Oen-Lee Photo

Lead UX Design Instructor, General Assembly

Originally from San Francisco, Jonathan has over 20 years of technology experience in product management, product design and practice leadership roles, as both a consultant and client. After spending the first decade of his career leading digital marketing initiatives for brands including Autodesk, Apple, Google, Medtronic, Sprint and Visa, Jonathan moved into digital transformation strategy, designing mobile applications, knowledge management systems, and marketing ecosystems for healthcare brands including Covidien, Edwards Lifesciences, and Genentech. As a strategist, Jonathn's role alternated between business analyst, user experience designer, technical architect and product manager. In 2015, fatigued by the consulting lifestyle, Jonathan joined the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco to lead digital transformation for their online and onsite experiences, becoming a vocal advocate for the design of accessible and inclusive digital experiences for all, regardless of age, ability, or native language.

From 2006-2012, Jonathan taught at Miami Ad School (digital marketing) and California College of the Arts (product design), introducing aspiring designers and writers to design thinking and agile methodologies within the framework of an advertising agency and/or startup. In 2018, Jonathan took a sabbatical from his technology career, teaching K-12 gifted education at the Nueva School in the San Francisco Bay Area, where design thinking, responsive teaching and diversity, equity and inclusion resided at the core of his pedagogy. He's excited to bring the intersection of his leadership, technology and education experience to the General Assembly classroom.

Since moving to Singapore in 2019, Jonathan has worked as a technology consultant. When he's not in front of the computer, Jonathan can be found building Duplo robots with his three-year old son or perfecting his tomato sauce recipe.
